Doylestown Registered Nurse Receives DAISY Award for Compassionate Service

Penn Medicine Doylestown Health registered nurse, Classica Kelso, was recently gifted a DAISY Award for her compassionate service.

Classica Kelso, a registered nurse at Penn Medicine Doylestown Health, was recently gifted the international DAISY Award for her compassion toward a patient and her family, writes Jeff Werner for Patch

The award honors nursing staff who go above and beyond in their dedication to serving patients.

One of Kelso’s patients, a 92-year-old woman, was struggling to breathe with her oxygen mask while resting in her hospital bed.

While waiting for the patient’s son to arrive from San Diego, Kelso helped prepare the room for his visit. She carefully cleaned the woman, brushed her hair, and organized the space to help create a peaceful atmosphere.

“By some miracle, she was alert and had the biggest smile as her son approached the bed. It was a gift from God and a priceless moment,” the nominator shared in reference to the visit. “Because of the care provided by Kelso, the family will cherish that final visit as a lasting memory.”

The DAISY Award was established in 1999 by the DAISY Foundation to recognize nurses who lead with kindness and professional excellence.

Individuals can be nominated by families, patients, and colleagues, and honorees receive a pin, certificate, and sculpture.
