August Komkov, 11, and Mia Mogilevsky, 9, ballroom dancers at Feasterville’s Brilliant Dancesport Studio, are among the top in the world, reports Wakisha Bailey for CBS News Philadelphia.
“You have to be strong — lower body and upper body,” said Komkov.
The pair has been dancing together for almost a year, showing off their skills with determination and having fun along the way.
Both have spent years strengthening their talents, with Mogilevsky having danced for four years while Komkov has been dancing for six.
They practice together six days a week and have participated in competitions around the world, representing Team USA. At events in the Netherlands and in the UK, they won gold.
Their craft requires dedication and teamwork, with intense amounts of training similar to other elite competitive sports.
“It feels great,” the two said together. “It feels really good to be a world champion.”
August discussed how his confidence has been shaped and strengthened thanks to his years of dancing.
