NBC is busy at work in terms of its sports content for this month as its parent company, Comcast, aims to keep up with its competitors, writes Hannah Miller for Bloomberg.
Comcast has labeled Feb. 2026 as “Legendary February,” as NBC and its subsidiaries are playing host to several major sporting events this month alone. This includes Super Bowl LX, the 2026 Winter Olympics, and 2026 NBA All-Star Game.
The hope is for these high-profile live sporting events to lead to a surge of viewers to not only its TV networks, but also Peacock streaming service.
All in all, Comcast plans to spend over $8 billion on sports content. In addition to airing the three aforementioned major sporting events, this include includes Major League Baseball, professional wrestling, World Cup soccer, and the NFL.
Comcast’s co-CEO Mike Cavanagh said dominating sports coverage at a time when viewers’ attention is easily divided will give Peacock subscribers more of an incentive to remain subscribers.
“The caliber of the content I think really rings true in an age of a lot of clutter,” Cavanagh said.
This is also part of Comcast’s efforts to keep up with competitors like Amazon, Disney, and Netflix.
