The family-owned pizza spot has been offering its square pizzas since 1959, when it opened its first location in Northeast Philadelphia.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the citation and the PA state flag,” wrote the restaurant on Facebook. “Thank you to everyone in the community who came out for our anniversary and for 10 amazing years.”

The original restaurant was opened by Joseph and Philomena Santucci in the Juniata Park section of the city.

The square pizza with its sauce covering a layer of fresh mozzarella cheese was a Philly staple from its opening to 1993.

It wasn’t long before more locations were opened, bringing their signature pizza to other parts of the city.

Their daughter, Teresa Santucci, and her husband Gene Carelli, opened their first location in Mayfair in 1993. Just three years later, they opened their second location on Tyson Avenue.

Nick Carelli, Teresa and Gene’s son, eventually relocated the Tyson Avenue store to Warminster in 2015.
