This Christmas season, celebrate with the beloved Buddy the Elf in the Bucks County Playhouse’s production of “Elf: The Musical” in New Hope through Jan. 4, reports Alicia Vitarelli for 6abc.
The musical, just like the classic film, stars Buddy, a human raised by elves who ventures beyond the North Pole to New York City.
Buddy is played by Chris Stevens, an actor from Gloucester Township.
“He’s trying to just convey that Santa is real,” said Stevens. “The magic’s real. It’s all real. This is very much me. I love Christmas, and I love musical theater. Buddy is silly, he’s goofy, he’s obviously tall. But there’s also this heart with Buddy that is just pure.”
The movie has been a holiday favorite since its release in 2003, and the musical manages to capture the same joy and fun.
John Tartaglia, the acclaimed Broadway star and puppeteer, is directing the production.
“When they adapted the film into a musical, they took all of the things that people love and expect, especially that silliness from Buddy that Will Ferrell did so brilliantly in the film,” Tartaglia said.
Along with catchy music and lively group numbers, the musical also offers heartfelt moments between Buddy and his father and newfound family.
