Morrisville School District, threatened by budget shortfalls, has received a critical lifeline in the form of state funding, writes Samantha Garcia for WFMZ 69 News.
With a months-long budget impasse resolved, Senator Steve Santarsiero and Representative Jim Prokopiak confirmed $1.5 million in new funding for the district, ensuring that schools can remain open past January.
Superintendent Andrew Doster had previously stated that the district faced closure on Jan. 30 if state aid did not arrive.
“It is a huge sense of relief to hear the state budget has passed and knowing there are additional dollars allocated for our district,” said Doster.
Santarsiero stressed that ensuring Morrisville remained open was one of his highest priorities.
“A school district having to face closure in response to a budget impasse is unprecedented, and I am pleased we were able to resolve this crisis,” he said.
According to Prokopiak, the funding will go toward providing students with essential services and learning opportunities.
Morrisville has been receiving millions less annually compared to similar districts for years.
