Michener Art Museum Hosts Immersive Exhibit by Acclaimed Pakistani American Artist

The Michener Art Museum is displaying an exhibit from Pakistani American artist Anila Quayyum Agha, featuring 38 art pieces, until Jan. 11.

From now until Jan. 11, the Michener Art Museum in Doylestown is displaying a new exhibit from acclaimed Pakistani American artist Anila Quayyum Agha, titled “Interwoven.”

Thirty-eight of Agha’s works will be on display, blending a variety of mediums and methods, including embroidery and beading, paintings, sculptures, and more.

Agha’s art references themes related to cultural identity, the immigrant experience and the roles of women in society.

“I do not have a single story,” said Agha. “I have multiple stories that become interwoven to create a tapestry that is colorful, that is varied, that has pattern, that has beauty and light. We have to explore the multiple stories that make our lives.”

Her “All Flowers are for Me” light box installation utilizes patterns from medieval Persian textiles and light to create stunning projections.

The exhibit displays pieces from her studio along with loans from private and public collections, spanning her entire career.

“Her installations don’t just captivate the eye—they create a contemplative space that invites visitors to engage with questions of identity, craft, and belonging. You become part of the work, not only as you move through it, but also in the moments of reflection it provokes,” said Laura Igoe, Gerry and Marguerite Lenfest Chief Curator.
