IKEA Reinvents Affordable Smart Home Devices and Connectivity

IKEA’s Conshohocken team unveils a new Matter-based smart home line promising affordability, simplicity, and true connectivity.

From its North American headquarters in Conshohocken, IKEA is setting the stage for a smarter, simpler future at home, writes Sophie Charara for Wired.

The retailer has unveiled a sweeping new Matter-compatible smart home lineup, including light bulbs, sensors, plugs, and remotes. The line is designed to make connected living affordable and frustration-free, finally.

The new range introduces KAJPLATS smart bulbs, BILRESA multi-device remotes, and a slate of sensors under a unified standard supported by Apple, Google, and Amazon. Unlike IKEA’s earlier Zigbee-based products, these devices work seamlessly together and across brands. The rollout begins in Europe this winter, with U.S. availability expected in 2026.

Executives say the goal is to eliminate the confusion of multiple hubs and apps that have plagued smart homes for years. Prices will also drop significantly to keep innovation accessible to IKEA’s global customer base.

As IKEA continues refining its DIRIGERA hub and investing in AI-driven features, company leaders say innovation has always been their goal.

“For 80 years, we’ve been trying to fulfill people’s needs and dreams in their homes,” said one executive from the company.
