Crossing Quilts of Valor Awards Four Bucks County Veterans with Quilts

Four veterans from Bucks County were recently awarded quilts from the National Quilts of Valor’s Newtown chapter, Crossing Quilts of Valor.

Members of the Washington Crossing Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Crossing Quilts of Valor organization recently presented four Bucks County veterans with special quilts, writes Jeff Werner for Patch.

The quilts were handed out at a recent DAR meeting at Newtown’s Morrell Smith American Legion Post 440.

The first recipient was U.S. Navy veteran William Redington, a Purple Heart recipient who served during the Vietnam War.

Brian MacGillivray, a Marine Corps veteran serving in the Persian Gulf War who was also deployed to several countries in the Middle East, was the second recipient.

Another quilt was given to Bennett Walsh, who served in the Marine Corps and saw combat in Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia.

The final quilt was given to Jim McLaughlin, a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Vietnam War and later served in the U.S. Army National Guard.

“Please know that all the stitches in our quilts are stitches of love,” said Sandra Billington of Crossing Quilts of Valor. “May these stitches and quilts wrap you in comfort and say, ‘Welcome Home.’”

The Crossing Quilts of Valor organization is made up of women with a passion for quilting and a deep appreciation for veterans. They receive assignments from the national Quilts of Valor Foundation and meet regularly to stitch them.
