More than 290 teams comprised of 8,000-plus supporters recently participated in the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Cancer Center’s largest fundraiser, the Parkway Run & Walk, presented by Citadel Credit Union. More than $1.8 million was raised to fund and directly support pediatric research and care for those battling cancer.

The annual Parkway Run & Walk raises funds and awareness during September’s National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Each year, thousands of participants, who are mostly grateful patient families honoring loved ones treated at CHOP, along with CHOP clinicians and researchers, unite on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, many with signs and t-shirts dedicated to children in the community with cancer. It is a time of celebration and reflection and an opportunity for past patient families to reconnect with staff from the Cancer Center.

“As presenting sponsor for the sixth year, Citadel Credit Union is proud to support CHOP’s Parkway Run & Walk,” said Steve Miller, Citadel’s Vice President of Philanthropy and Community Engagement. “This year, our employees, families, and friends exceeded our internal fundraising goal, and more than 300 also participated by running, walking, or volunteering. Standing alongside CHOP and our community, we’re committed to building strength together and bringing hope to children and families across the region.”

“This event is so special as it gives our doctors, nurses, social workers, child life specialists, and others who work at our Cancer Center the chance to come together with our patients and their families for a fun and inspiring morning,” said Dr. Susan Rheingold, Attending Physician at the Cancer Center at CHOP. “The Parkway Run & Walk raises critical funds for research, which is essential in our fight against childhood cancer. We thank everyone who participated as they are part of our mission to develop better treatments and outcomes for those in our care.”
