Maris Restaurant in Media Focusing on the Mediterranean and Seafood

The new Maris restaurant in Media will focus on seafood and the Mediterranean.

Seafood dominates at Maris, a new Mediterranean restaurant opening in late October at 214 W. State Street in Media, writes Lisa Dukart for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Maris, which translated means “of the sea,” will have seafood towers, grilled fish including whole branzino, grilled swordfish and tuna, and a raw bar.

“We want the seafood to be the star here,” said General Manager Elise Rehoric.

The restaurant is the creation of La Belle Epoque owner Loïc Barnieu, who was a partner in the former Two Fourteen restaurant where the new restaurant is opening. Two Fourteen closed Aug. 3.

Barnieu is also the force behind Media’s popular Sterling Pig Brewery and Tap 24.

The Maris menu is inspired by Mediterranean cuisine with “a bit of a Greek touch,” said General Manager Elise Rehoric.

Non-seafood entrees include lamb chops, steak, a Greek-style cheesesteak, and burgers.

Appetizers include mixed olives, crab cakes. Grilled octopus and spreads with pita and vegetables.

Salads, seafood pasta dishes, and desserts will also be on the menu, in development by Barnieu with Jose Rodriguez, the chef at La Belle Epoque and Tap 24.

Rehoric said the idea behind the restaurant was to create dining options not now available in Media.
