The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) is releasing water into Tohickon Creek from the Lake Nockamixon dam this weekend, Nov. 1 and 2, writes staff for Lehigh Valley Live.
The water release begins at 4 AM on both Saturday and Sunday, sending water downstream to Pipersville’s Ralph Stover State Park from 9 AM to 4 PM.
Conditions will be perfect for whitewater boaters looking to spend some time on the creek.
Typically, individuals begin boating at the park and travel for four miles down to Point Pleasant.
The water release occurs twice a year, first around the middle of March and again in the first week of November. Kayakers, canoeists and rafters from across the Northeast have traveled to Bucks County to participate.
The dam release generates Class 3 and 4 rapids, according to the DCNR, for experienced boaters to enjoy.
Those planning to participate are required to adhere to the American Whitewater Affiliation safety code, wear the appropriate gear and use the proper equipment.
Spectators at Ralph Stover State Park will have the best views of the boaters from 8 AM to 5 PM.
Those hiking and walking in the park should expect increased foot traffic as a result of the event.
