Passions Rise Over Local Eateries in Delco Restaurant Review Facebook Group

Delco Restaurant Review, a Facebook group with roughly 42,000 members, allows passionate locals to discuss Delaware County eateries, and it can lead to some heated conversations.

Delco Restaurant Review is a Facebook group with roughly 42,000 members where locals can discuss Delaware County eateries, writes Victor Fiorillo for Philadelphia Magazine.

It is not unusual for conversations to get heated very quickly.

“I find that anytime someone says that this place is the ‘best’ at anything, the situation can devolve quickly,” said Frank Naimoli, moderator of the group. “People in Delco are fiercely loyal, so if you say that some new place has the best whatever and that’s not someone’s place they’ve been going to for years, they will come after you, even if the place they’ve been going to for years is no good.”

If somebody leaves a bad review of a popular place that some have been visiting for years, they often face an army of fans attacking them aggressively. As a result, group admin Kara Cusick has allowed reviewers to post anonymously, despite significant criticism of this decision.

“People are crazy,” said Cusick. “Members have actually doxxed people and called their jobs because of bad reviews they’ve left.”

As admins, Cusick and Naimoli spend much of their time resolving conflicts and issuing suspensions or bans, sometimes permanent.
