Milo the dachshund, along with his owner Donna Molloy of Bucks County, recently traveled to Manayunk to compete in the annual Lucky’s Great Wiener Race at Venice Island, writes Michelle Myers for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Molloy drove an hour from her home to give Milo the chance to compete.
“It’s worth it,” she said. “I am glad to see all the little wiener dogs, dachshunds are adorable, a pack of them is always great together.”
The local wiener dog was one of 65 that attended the event, each dressed in hot dog costumes, hoping to win the title of the fastest dog.
Since 2014, the restaurant Lucky’s Last Chance has organized the event. While they had to take a hiatus in 2024, they returned with a new location for this year’s competition at the Venice Island Performing Arts and Recreation Center.
The event raises money for the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS).
Milo was ready to go when it was his time to race across the 40-foot synthetic grass track. With 400 spectators watching, he managed to secure a spot in the final round.
At his first-ever Lucky’s Great Wiener Race, Milo managed to secure fourth place.
