Doylestown Chef Honors Grandmothers with Recently Opened Restaurant

Vernafern, a new restaurant at Main Street Market Place in Doylestown, serves up delicious dishes taking inspiration from the chef’s grandmothers.

Main Street Market Place in Doylestown is the home of Vernafern, a new restaurant that serves wholesome, high-quality dishes, reports Jennaphr Frederick for FOX 29 Philadelphia.

The restaurant, named after the chef’s grandmothers, Verna and Fern, offers a range of menu items, including roast chicken, peach tart and beet tartare. Among their offerings are a variety of gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options.

“We try to do the simple things really well here,” said Justin McClain, chef and co-owner of Vernafern.

McClain uses traditional techniques such as brining, salting and curing to preserve food before refrigeration, blending old and new culinary methods.

The restaurant takes inspiration from McClain’s grandmothers. Both women were excellent cooks who brought people together to enjoy a comforting meal, and McClain hoped to rekindle that same energy in this new eatery.

The menu rotates seasonally and features creations made with fresh, local ingredients.

Guests can bring drinks from neighboring bars in the Market Place to enjoy with their meal at Vernafern.

While reservations aren’t required for general dining, those interested in the exclusive chef’s tasting experience will need to book in advance.
