Montgomery County announced plans for a new emergency behavioral health crisis center in King of Prussia, writes Rachel Ravina for the Reporter.
Commissioners unanimously approved a three-year lease for a 49,112-square-foot property at 1201 W. 8th Avenue, marking the first concrete move toward establishing a facility dedicated to around-the-clock behavioral health care.
“This is a critically important initiative, and we’re proud to do it in Montgomery County,” said Commissioners’ Chairman Neil Makhija.
The county partnered with Phoenix-based Connections Health Solutions, which will operate the center under an $18.1 million contract. Funding was drawn primarily from the state’s HealthChoices Behavioral Health Program reinvestment funds. Additional support is being sought through Medicaid, commercial insurance, and grants.
Upon completion, the facility will be open 24/7 with a no-turn-away policy, featuring specialized areas for children, adults, and families. Staff will include clinicians, peer support workers, crisis counselors, and case managers. The goal is to ease pressure on hospitals and law enforcement, while ensuring residents have a safe alternative to emergency rooms or jail during crises.
“This isn’t just about a service. It’s not just about a best practice,” said Vera Zanders, deputy administrator of adult mental health. “It’s about having a lifeline of hope when someone is feeling low.”
