Iron Hill Brewery Shuts Down Abruptly, Including Newtown Location

Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant shut down abruptly, closing its Newtown location.

Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant shut down abruptly, including its Newtown location, leading breweries across the region and the state to step up and assist the impacted employees and customers, writes Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The 30-year-old chain based in Exton announced last week it was closing all 16 remaining locations, effective immediately, and noted that the company is planning on filing for bankruptcy.

Iron Hill cited ongoing financial challenges as the reason for closing, along with its inability to secure new funding sources.

This closure has left many empty restaurants throughout the Philadelphia region, as well as a large employee base without jobs. The company employed around 1,500 people as of February, when it still operated 19 locations.

In response to the closures, Second Sin Brewing and Newtown Brewing in Bucks County were among those offering discounts to Iron Hill customers. The first 50 patrons who brought active gift cards to their taprooms on Saturday, two days after the closing announcement, received a complimentary 8-ounce pour of any beer on tap and enjoyed 25 percent off their final tab.
