After years of hard work, Morrisville was finally able to open its new playground, Manor Park Playground, writes Kai Lincke for the Bucks County Courier Times.
The new space features an area for children ages 2 to 5, as well as another space for ages 5 to 12. Slides, a jungle gym, monkey bars and swings are all included in the new play areas.
Morrisville Borough Council President Helen Hlahol first proposed updating the playground in 2018. At the time, the playground lacked proper safety features, and the current structures showed signs of wear.
The council and Gilmore and Associates Inc. worked to formulate plans for the new space. The first step was figuring out where to get the funds to cover the cost.
“Our residents are already taxed enough, and I didn’t want to build a playground using resident dollars,” said Hlahol. “We worked really hard in order to find sources outside of their tax dollars in order to get this happening.”
Fortunately, the project was provided a $300,000 Bucks County Community Development Block Grant and given a $50,000 donation from Sibanye-Stillwater Reldan. Britton Industries also supported the construction, providing mulch for the playground.
“We’re very fortunate in creating these partnerships and having everyone trying to pitch in to get a nice playground for all the kids,” Hlahol said.
