The Chesapeake Crab Company in Garnet Valley brings seaside tastes to Delaware County.
They’ll sell you a dozen blue crabs, a half bushel, or a whole bushel fresh from the Chesapeake Bay, along with a variety of homemade crab and seafood delicacies.
The business is family owned, operated by John Renzi, along with his wife and children, writes Bob Kelly for Fox 29.
“We started as Renzi’s Catering in 1991, and my hobby, crabbing, actually started as a side business, and now we’re doing about 150 bushels of crab a week here,” said John Renzi.
Some crabs get turned into 4-oz. crab cakes.
“When we first started, we used to weigh them, but after you make half a million of them, you get a pretty good feel for what four ounces is,” John Renzi said.
Customers will also find homemade crab gravy, homemade cream of crab soup, New England Clam Chowder, clams from Virginia, mussels, Clams Casino, and Ecuadorian white shrimp.
The Chesapeake Crab Company also has a catering hall available to rent out for weddings, baby showers, or other gatherings. When the hall isn’t rented, John Renzi opens it up to the public for an all-you-can-eat crab feast.
