Pragun Bhardwaj, an actor from Bucks County, is making his Philadelphia debut in a touring production of the Broadway hit, “Life of Pi,” reports Alicia Vitarelli for 6abc.
Bhardwaj, an ensemble member of the play, was born in Bristol and grew up in Chalfont. He fell in love with theater in middle school and joined his school’s drama program. His passion followed him into high school, and Bhardwaj eventually decided to pursue it for his career.
Now, Bhardwaj is excited to help bring the three-time Tony Award-winning production to life in Philadelphia.
“It’s very surreal just to be able to have people to come support in my city,” said Bhardwaj. “It’s really awesome.”
The play is based on the best-selling book and tells the story of a boy, Pi, and the 227 days he spent lost at sea with a tiger in his boat.
Bhardwaj noted his own personal connection with the story.
“It’s my first time being able to be in a story about Indian people. It takes place partly in India. There’s Hindi that is spoken. There’s prayer that is spoken. Pi’s family completely resembles my own home that I grew up in. It’s super cool and personal,” he said.
The show will be running at the Academy of Music from July 15 to 27.
