Sesame Place Philadelphia in Langhorne recently launched the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower program, making it the first North American theme park to participate in the global initiative, writes staff at Sesame Place Philadelphia.
The program, also known simply as the Sunflower, works to support individuals with conditions and disabilities that aren’t visibly apparent. This includes neurological and cognitive conditions, as well as sensory and processing challenges.
Guests who would like to participate can pick up a wristband decorated with sunflowers from Mr. Hooper’s Gift Shop or the Family Care Center.
The wristband indicates to staff that the individual may need additional assistance or time as they travel through the park.
Guests are not required to provide their diagnosis or disclose any private information to receive a wristband.
“At Sesame Place Philadelphia, we are dedicated to creating an inclusive environment where all guests feel welcomed and supported,” stated Cathy Valeriano, President of Sesame Place Philadelphia. “Joining Hidden Disabilities Sunflower allows us to further enhance the accessibility experience at our park.”
In addition to the Sunflower, the park will be updating its accessibility training resources for its ambassadors.
Hidden Disabilities Sunflower joins the park’s other accessibility programs, the Ride Access Program and the Special Access Pass.
