Continuing a long-standing tradition of community support and employee recognition, Freedom Village at Brandywine has awarded scholarships to 24 team members through its resident-led Scholarship Fund.
The scholarships, awarded annually since the fund’s creation 19 years ago, are made possible through donations exclusively from Freedom Village residents.
The initiative is managed entirely by a volunteer Board of Directors, who handle fundraising, application review, interviews, and recipient selection.
“This is more than financial aid – it’s life-changing support,” said Gail Woods, resident of Freedom Village at Brandywine and president of the Board of Directors of the Scholarship Committee. “Many of our recipients wouldn’t otherwise have access to higher education, and we are thrilled to be able to give back to them, given how much they give to us day in and day out.”
This year’s recipients are pursuing degrees at two- and four-year colleges as well as accredited trade schools.
Scholarship renewal is available through the completion of an undergraduate degree. Applicants are evaluated based on academic records, personal essays, and recommendations, including one from a Freedom Village supervisor.
Since its inception, the Freedom Village Brandywine Scholarship Fund has awarded 205 scholarships. Funding is sourced from resident donations, honorary gifts, and bequests.
Freedom Village Brandywine is a continuing care retirement community in Pennsylvania, managed by Life Care Services. The community offers a full continuum of care, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing.
