Ambler resident Piper Konz, a junior at Abington Friends School, recently helped power the Conshohocken Rowing Center’s boat to a gold medal in the women’s youth quad event at the U.S. Rowing Mid-Atlantic Youth Championships in West Windsor, N.J.
Konz and teammates Graciela Preetam, Beatrix Lay, and Egypt Strickland sprinted to open water and a 3.5-second victory, punching their ticket to row in the invitation-only U.S. Rowing National Championships.
“The women in this boat have committed to supporting each other, as they have supported all their teammates throughout the year,” said Conshohocken Rowing Center coach Aaron Preetam. “What is truly exciting about this group of women is that they have the capacity to be one of the fastest boats in the country. I don’t think they have put together a complete race yet. This is really exciting as they have untapped speed that we know they will harness at Youth Nationals.”
The 2025 U.S. Rowing Youth National Championships will be held from June 12-15 at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Fla.
“Piper’s extraordinary achievement reflects her discipline and leadership both on and off the water,” said Brendon Jobs, Director of Upper School at AFS. “She exemplifies the AFS spirit of persistence, teamwork, and inner strength that defines our community. We’re inspired by her excellence.”
