Before the Phillies took the field Friday night, one of their own delivered a major-league moment off the diamond—thanks in part to King of Prussia’s Victus Sports, writes Dan Snyder and Sean Tallant for CBS News.
Phillies reliever Matt Strahm teamed up with Victus to surprise the Newtown Angels, a special needs baseball team, with personalized gloves at Citizens Bank Park. Each glove was decked out in Phillies and Angels colors, tailored by position, and embroidered with names or nicknames, down to one young player’s favorite alter ego: Super Nate.
“We’re excited. We love it,” said Victus co-founder Jared Smith. “Every time we give them products, we see their faces light up.”
The Angels also got custom belts, a stadium tour, and a front-row look at pre-game warmups. It’s the kind of community connection Victus is becoming known for—just ask Matt Strahm, whose Declaration of Independence glove made national headlines last week.
Strahm and his wife have followed the Angels for two years, always looking for ways to give back. “They’re the happiest people on earth,” he said. “So to make them happier—it’s kinda crazy.”
