Rugby is gaining momentum across the United States — but here in Southeastern Pennsylvania, it’s not just growing. It’s thriving.
At the heart of this movement is Media Rugby Football Club, a nonprofit that’s been a part of the fabric of Delaware County since 1978. For more than 40 years, Media Rugby has brought together athletes, families, and supporters with a shared passion for one of the fastest-paced and most inclusive sports in the world. With over 120 active players and 300-plus alumni, the club is a true community institution — homegrown, volunteer-driven, and fiercely dedicated to growing the game across all age levels.
And, now, thanks to a new partnership with local technology company PTZOptics, Media Rugby is showing how tradition and innovation can go hand in hand.
Bringing Big-League Tech to Local Rugby
This season, Media Rugby partnered with PTZOptics, a Chester County-based leader in livestreaming camera technology, to produce a high-quality, multi-camera broadcast of a recent rugby match. The goal? To showcase the excitement of rugby to new audiences, provide valuable footage for players and coaches, and demonstrate how even community-level sports can benefit from cutting-edge production tools.
The setup featured:
- Four PTZOptics cameras positioned around the field, including one main game camera, a tight-angle cam, and two positioned at each try line
- PTZOptics Hive, a cloud-based platform that allows for remote camera control and color correction from anywhere
- PTZOptics SuperJoy controllers, giving operators tactile, responsive control of each camera
- YoloBox, a mobile live video switcher used for instant replay and multi-cam mixing
- SkyCoach, providing wireless access to replays for coaching staff right on the sidelines
A Local Company Supporting Local Sports
For Haverford Systems, the parent company of PTZOptics, this wasn’t just about showcasing technology — it was about giving back to the community. As a Chester County business with deep local roots, PTZOptics is committed to supporting youth and amateur sports in the region by bringing professional-grade video tools to local teams.
“Our goal is to empower community organizations with the same high-quality production tools used in pro sports,” said Paul Richards, Chief Revenue Officer at PTZOptics. “We love working with local clubs like Media Rugby to make sports more visible, more accessible, and more exciting for everyone involved — players, parents, coaches, and fans.”
By livestreaming local games, PTZOptics is helping to:
- Increase visibility and support for youth sports
- Give families and alumni new ways to engage
- Provide coaching staff with valuable replay tools
- Highlight the talent and passion found right here in Southeastern Pennsylvania
More Than a Game
For Media Rugby, this isn’t just about streaming one match. It’s about setting the stage for a new chapter in local rugby — where games are more accessible, young athletes are more engaged, and the community has new ways to connect with and support local sports programs.
“Rugby is growing fast in high schools and colleges across the country,” said a Media Rugby Club representative. “This partnership shows what’s possible when a community club embraces innovation. It helps us reach new audiences, recruit new players, and celebrate the incredible talent we have right here in Delaware County.”
