The former David Library of the American Revolution site in Washington Crossing could be transformed into the visitor center for a state park, writes Jess Rohan for the Bucks County Courier Times.
Last year, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, which owns the Upper Makefield building, conducted a feasibility study to explore the potential for a visitor center and hub in the southern section of Delaware Canal State Park.
The building is currently closed to the public, but visitors can still access the Delaware Canal Towpath walking trail.
The report on the study’s results is not yet available.
The property is located roughly a mile north of the Washington Crossing Historic Park. The walking trail links the two sites.
The building housed the library from 1974 until 2020, when its collection of thousands of primary sources on the Revolutionary War was relocated to the library of the American Philosophical Society in Philadelphia.
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources purchased the property in 2020 from the David Library of the American Revolution in an agreement that was co-signed by the Heritage Conservancy.
