It’s not every day that a Super Bowl champion drops insights on interest rates and real estate trends, but Brent Celek has never been the typical retired athlete.
On a recent episode of Speaking of Quality: Wealth Management Insights, hosted by Hank Smith of The Haverford Trust Company, Celek, former Eagles tight end and now owner of Brent Celek Real Estate, shared how football’s lessons of grit and discipline prepared him for his second act as an entrepreneur.
From the start, the conversation felt more like two friends catching up than a formal podcast. Celek opened up about his consulting role with the Eagles, his ongoing love for the game, and yes, how he might’ve played a tiny (and very humble) role in prepping the defense to contain a certain All-Pro tight end during this year’s Super Bowl.
But the heart of the discussion? Real estate.
Celek’s journey into the world of property investment was sparked by a bad restaurant lease and a desire to take control of his financial future. Now, with a growing brokerage, a passion for architecture and design, and a knack for spotting value in overlooked spaces, Celek is thriving in a field where, as he puts it, “you can win every day.”
He spoke candidly about how today’s high interest rates, housing shortages, and the post-COVID shift toward suburban living are shaping the Philadelphia area real estate landscape. “If it’s a good house in a good location, I just don’t see it losing value,” he said. “There’s too little supply and too much demand.”
For Celek, the suburbs, especially those surrounding Philadelphia, offer the best of both worlds: family-friendly space and proximity to the city’s growing cultural and culinary scenes. As a father of four, he values grass and green space more than skyscrapers these days, but he hasn’t lost his appreciation for what makes Philly special.
“Philadelphia is a great city,” he said. “You can be in and out quickly. The food scene’s amazing. The vibe’s strong. I think the real estate market here is going to keep growing.”
Beyond his insights into property trends, Celek also touched on deeper themes—reinvention, leadership, and life after football. He was honest about the challenges of leaving the NFL behind and rebuilding his identity from scratch, a reality many athletes face after retirement.
“I was used to being at the top of my game,” he said. “Now I had to start over. Nobody’s handing me deals just because I played football.”
And yet, he’s found purpose, and even joy, in the process.
Whether mentoring younger Eagles players, coaching his kids from the sidelines, or walking through a property imagining what could be, Celek is still chasing greatness. Only now, the scoreboard looks a little different.
