Dave Curry, a teacher at the Newtown Middle School, recognized with the Edward C. Roy Jr. Award for Excellence in K-8 Earth Science Teaching.

Dave Curry, an Earth and space science teacher at Newtown Middle School in the Council Rock School District, has been recognized with the 2025 Edward C. Roy Jr. Award for Excellence in K-8 Earth Science Teaching from the American Geosciences Institute, writes Jeff Werner for the Patch.

“Dave Curry is the sort of passionate, engaging Earth science educator who helps young people realize the life-changing potential of geoscience,” said AGI Executive Director Dr. Jonathan Arthur.

The annual award honors a kindergarten to eighth-grade teacher who shows leadership and innovation in Earth science education.

Curry, who describes himself as a dedicated lifelong learner, has taught Earth Science at the middle school and high school levels for over three decades. He serves as a sponsor for science fairs and often encourages participants to focus on Earth and space science in their projects.

He also creates authentic lessons that immerse students in real-world problems through activities modeled after professional work and direct connections with scientists.

Curry will receive a $2,500 cash prize as part of the reward along with up to $1,500 for professional travel. Both the teacher and the school will receive plaques marking the accomplishment.
