Who is Philadelphia Eagles Owner Jeffrey Lurie?

Get to know Jeffrey Lurie, the Eagles owner and Wynnewood resident who led the team to four Super Bowls, including their first victory.

Jeffrey Lurie has been the driving force behind the Philadelphia Eagles for over three decades, writes Jack McKessy for USA Today.

Since purchasing the team in 1994, the Wynnewood resident has led them to 19 playoff appearances, four NFC championships, and their first Super Bowl victory in 2018. Now, the Eagles are back in the Super Bowl for the second time in three years and the third time in the last eight seasons.

Lurie and his mother, Nancy Lurie Marks, bought the Eagles from Norman Braman for $195 million, using stocks as equity and collateral. A Massachusetts native, Lurie originally tried to purchase his childhood team, the New England Patriots, before setting his sights on Philadelphia. In 2005, he watched the Patriots defeat the Eagles in Super Bowl 39, but 13 years later, the Eagles claimed their first Lombardi Trophy.

Beyond football, Lurie has strong roots in the film industry. His grandfather founded General Cinema, and Lurie later launched Chestnut Hill Productions. He has produced several acclaimed documentaries, including three Academy Award winners: Inside Job, Inocente, and Summer of Soul.

With a net worth of $5.3 billion as of January 2025, Lurie continues to shape the Eagles’ future, hoping to add another championship to his legacy.
