The young girl who lost her life in a medical jet crash in Northeast Philadelphia on Friday, Jan. 31, made an indelible impact on the connections she made during her time in the city, writes Fallon Roth for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The girl, originally from Mexico, was sent to Philadelphia about four months ago to receive lifesaving treatment at Shriners Hospital, which was not easily treated in her home country.
“The relationships that were formed were true and were dear, and you know she is greatly missed this morning because of that impact,” Mel Bower, chief marketing and communications officer for Shriners, said Saturday.
She was flying home alongside her mother and four others when the jet went down near Roosevelt Mall within just about 30 seconds after taking off.
Bower praised the young girl’s journey as one of inspiration and hope.
Her loss has been felt across the Shriners and nearby Philadelphia community, as they grapple with the tragedy.
According to Bower, it further fuels their mission to give children their best lives.
