Bucks County officials broke ground on the future larger Government Services Center for Lower Bucks in Levittown in September 2023, writes JD Mullane for the Bucks County Courier Times.
Since then, the safety fencing has been erected around the site, and heavy equipment has been parked on the property, but there has not been any activity on the facility for a while.
According to Jim O’Malley, spokesman for Bucks County, the delay is caused by a permitting issue, as the county has been working on obtaining construction and environmental permits from all levels of government.
O’Malley did note that it is expected construction will start soon.
“That’s the delay — getting all these OKs, and that sort of thing,” he said, referring to the process as slow.
The current building is nearly three decades old and undersized. Visitors requiring various permits or tax information find themselves stuck in an uncomfortable and cramped office.
“There’s just not enough room,” said O’Malley.
The existing building is so small that it is unable to fit all of the county’s 13 departments.
“This one building will consolidate everything,” said O’Malley.
