Central Bucks School District Administrators Share Details on Elementary School Construction Plans

Central Bucks School District administrators shared details about elementary school construction plans during a recent meeting at West.

Central Bucks School District administrators shared additional details about elementary school construction plans and addressed attendee questions during a recent meeting at West, writes Jess Rohan for the Bucks County Courier Times.

Most attendees were from Linden Elementary, which faces potential closure due to declining enrollment. The district’s proposed plans consistently include shutting down Linden.

In December, the school board approved a renovation plan for five elementary schools: Barclay, Buckingham, Gayman, Titus, and Warwick. The district is still finalizing plans for Linden, Kutz, and Doyle elementary schools, possibly leading to the closure of two. The approved plan currently carries a $235 million price tag.

According to the district’s presentation, renovating all three remaining schools would be the cheapest at around $94 million. However, it could lead to issues like HVAC systems and larger bathrooms taking over classroom space. The next cheapest option, at $101.3 million, would be building a combined school on Doyle’s property.

Chief Operating Officer Tara Houser said the second option is the best financially.

Another option is to replace all three with new ones, but at a cost of $126.2 million. This requires approval from residents through a referendum.
