Well-known pizza reviewer David Portnoy, founder of Barstool Sports, a sports and culture media company, weighed in on Wawa pizza, and it wasn’t good, writes Jacob Baumgart for Patch.
Portnoy stopped at a Wawa in Glen Burnie, Maryland.
“Wawa has disgusting pizza,” the celebrity foodie and sports personality said in a video review.
He rated the pizza a 2.8 out of 10.
Portnoy also criticized the price of the $7.69 personal cheese pie, which is only available after 4 p.m.
“It’s not cheap. It’s six bucks, seven bucks for this,” Portnoy said.
Portnoy reaches 1.41 million subscribers on his YouTube channel, One Bite Pizza Reviews.
“Never really got the hype of Wawa. I know it’s a Philly thing,” Portnoy said in the video.
At one point, he described Wawa as a “gas station with like a little food spot in the middle.”
Portnoy claimed Wawa, founded in Delaware County, had considered using him to help promote its pizza service when it launched in July 2023, but he never heard back from them.
Wawa so far has chosen not to respond to Portnoy’s remarks, or his review.
The review has had over 800,000 views on Facebook and 200,000 views on YouTube.
