Artist Sarah Kaizar, a Newtown native, has developed AT Feed, an AI-powered climate news aggregator that curates highlights from current climate-related reporting and uses ChatGPT to condense them into concise 600-word summaries, writes Peter Crimmins for the WHYY.
AT Feed is published biweekly on TheArtBlog, a Philadelphia arts news and reviews website.
“It’s a little sassy,” said Kaizar. “I do ask it to write something of a satirical post, but even the satire is not very far off from the current headlines. There’s not much spin on it.”
The summaries blend credible news with trivial fluff, as Kaizar acknowledges allowing her bot to embrace algorithmic absurdity.
“I described it as in the camp of political cartooning,” she said. “A lot of stories are very click-baity, which is part of the questions I have for the project: What are we reading? What are we getting out of this information? The AI stories are that mishmash of me throwing my hands up.”
Kaizar is planning on posting every two weeks for a year, gradually refining the direction and purpose of her feed as she goes.
