A Mansion Under Construction in Broomall Is Upsetting the Neighborhood
Nicholas Reynolds is cofounder of the Marple Civic Association, serves on the Marple School Board and is a successful owner of Delco Steaks, Marple Public House, and the Splash Swim Club, but he’s lately getting flak for an oversized home he’s building in a Broomall neighborhood
Tensions have mounted for months between Reynolds and neighbors, writes Jesse Bunch for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
“You look at this house, it’s as much as three times as large” as surrounding split-levels, said neighbor Bob Duncan, who has organized a protest petition that has 100 signatures from 80 households.
In late summer, Marple officials issued a stop-work order on the home under construction, alleging that local zoning regulations weren’t being followed.
Reynolds has asked the zoning hearing board for variances to finish the job.
At a Nov. 20 zoning board hearing, a compromise building proposal between Reynolds’ attorney, the township, and the neighbors was reached.
The new plan has Reynolds shrink the property’s footprint, cutting back a section of the garage and rear porch, and adding plant dividers between property lines.
The board will vote Dec. 18 whether to approve Reynolds’ variances, which would allow most of the home to remain.
