Covello’s Pizza is a Trenton staple that has been serving some of the best pizza in the region for almost half a century, writes L.A. Parker for The Trentonian.

In addition to pizza, the third-generation shop is known for its mouthwatering cheesesteaks.

The pizza place is run by Frank Covello Sr., his son, Giuseppe, and grandson, Frank, Jr.

Frank, Sr. arrived in Brooklyn, N.Y. from Palermo, Sicily, in 1970.

“I worked a construction job for about six years before I decided I wanted to do something else,” he said.

He left Brooklyn for Trenton and opened his first pizza shop. Over the years, he built a successful business he turned over to Giuseppe around a decade ago. After losing his wife Giuseppa eight years ago, he continued at the restaurant and cooking to enrich his life.

For all of the family, the shop represents an opportunity and a treasure trove of priceless memories.

“I started working here when I could barely see over the counter,” said Frank, Jr. “I love everything about working here with my dad and grandfather. I really like meeting and talking with all our customers.”
