2nd Golfer, Jordan Spieth, Joins Tiger Woods in Backing Cobbs Creek Project
Tiger Woods has been joined by professional golfer Jordan Spieth in backing a $150 million restoration and expansion of the Cobbs Creek Golf Campus in West Philadelphia and Upper Darby, writes John George for Philadelphia Business Journal.
A three-time major winner, Spieth has awarded the Cobbs Creek Foundation a $250,000 grant through the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation for a junior putting green.
The grant will cover the total cost of a planned 20,000-square-foot putting green that will introduce younger players to the game and hopefully open more door to future players, according to Jeff Shanahan, president of the Cobbs Creek Foundation.
The putting green will be built outside of the TGR Learning Lab, an educational center for local youth. The Cobbs Creek Foundation is partnering with pro golfer Tiger Woods charity, the TGR Foundation to build the center.
Both the putting green and the lab should be finished by 2025.
The Spieth family hope the project fosters a love of golf for younger players.
“Golf is a great vehicle to learn valuable life lessons, as well as receive comprehensive mentorship and support,” Annie Spieth, Jordan’s wife, said in a statement.
