A Gen Z‘er in Bucks County is embracing a national trend, driven by social media and a desire for classic scents, where teen boys are rediscovering 1990s colognes, writes Alina Dizik for The Wall Street Journal.
Marcus Melamed, a 15-year-old Newtown resident, had complimented his grandfather’s scent for years before he received his own bottle of Terre d’Hermès two years ago.
His grandfather purchased the cologne for him. It launched in 2006. The scent has notes of grapefruit and cedar. It sells online for $135.
“It does make me feel like I am a little bit older,” said Marcus.
Since then, the teen has continued to build on his collection, mostly thanks to trips to the mall with his mother.
His favorite brands also include Yves Saint Lauren and Abercrombie & Fitch, while he stays away from other popular scents like Dior Sauvage, known for its woodiness. Plus, too many of his friends use that scent.
