Wall Street Journal: Former Eagles Head Coach Has a Goal to Reorder Football
Former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly is aiming to reorder football and win a national title in the process by stepping down the coaching ladder, writes Laine Higgins for The Wall Street Journal.
Kelly already revolutionized almost every aspect of college football during his time as head coach at the University of Oregon. His warp-speed offense completely altered how the game was played, while his focus on conditioning transformed the way teams practiced.
He even changed the way coaches thought by insisting on going for two instead of just taking the extra point.
In the latest innovative move, Kelly made a stunning decision earlier this year to step down as head coach at UCLA and take a job as the offensive coordinator at Ohio State.
For many this was a bewildering career move. But for Kelly, it was his latest experiment aimed at finding enough edge to help him achieve one thing he has failed to do in college football: win a national championship.
“His mind is constantly thinking about how can you be different, how can you be consistent and how can you be great,” said UCLA water polo coach Adam Wright. “He’s a savant.”
