Space Cadet Brewing, Philadelphia’s Newest Incoming Brewery, is Out of This World
Space Cadet Brewing, founded by former brewer for Philadelphia and Victory Richie Tevlin, recently launched with single-batch beers and space-inspired label art, writes Ali Mohsen for Billy Penn at WHYY.
Tevlin has wanted to open his own brewery for years. The branding concept came to him in a haze of intoxication at a friend’s bachelor party.
“It was like, I had this image of this astronaut, pointing at the stars,” he said.
He put his vision on paper as soon as he returned home. Two years later, that astronaut is the mascot of Space Cadet Brewing, which is expected to launch in early October.
Tevlin plans to brew each recipe only once, and just enough to fill 80 cases and about 40 kegs. Even if some beers become best-sellers, they will not return.
“I don’t want to create a beer and then just keep brewing it over and over, I want every batch to be special,” he said. “Because we’re small-batch, and because I know how to write recipes, I can put out new [ones] all the time to keep the brand fresh.”
His beers will be distributed by Penn Beer throughout the Philadelphia region and wider.
