La Colombe co-founder and Gladwyne resident Todd Carmichael would like to see the brand refocus on innovation and the development of its coffee products and brick-and-mortar cafes, writes Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Carmichael, who separated from La Colombe after it was acquired by Chobani, shared his vision during an event last week at the Union League of Philadelphia.

The new owner made some changes since taking over the company. Among them was launching a new size for its canned draft lattes as well as bringing back a popular flavor. Chobani has also partnered with Keurig Dr Pepper to expand its distribution in retail channels, including grocery and convenience stores.

Carmichael commended the company for these moves but added that La Colombe’s draft latte and cold brew, have not yet reached their full potential. Carmichael created both of these during his time with the roasting company.

“Do I think that the draft latte has evolved to its furthest level?” said Carmichael. “No. It needs much more innovation. And it could be something that’s just extraordinary, but that’s going to be hard.”
