Popular local eatery Hank’s Place is set to reopen in Chadds Ford this fall after it was forced to relocate to Kennett Square due to damage caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ida in 2021, writes Madeleine Wright for CBS News Philadelphia.
The eatery’s original location stood for over seven decades before its dining room, front kitchen, back kitchen, and outside area all got flooded.
“It was devastating to see our life’s work basically destroyed,” said owner Anthony Young. “Hank’s is the heart of Chadds Ford. And a big part of the reason that my wife and I purchased the restaurant was to ensure that Hank’s carried on for another 70 years.”
Despite the destruction, Young was determined to return the restaurant to its original location. The damaged building was razed in December 2023, and a $5 million construction project started to build a new home for Hank’s Place that could handle the next big storm.
Until the new building is completed, the restaurant will continue to operate out of its temporary Kennett Square location.
