The former Chadds Ford home of N.C. Wyeth is about to be preserved, writes staff for Chadds Ford Live. Wyeth worked on the Treasure Island illustration on the property, which is known as the Joseph Davis Tract.
The Davis Tract House was originally built in 1725. N.C. Wyeth and his family lived in the home from 1907 to 1911. Wyeth converted the carriage house into his studio, creating some of his most popular works there.
North American Land Trust (NALT) President Steven Carter said that the nonprofit conversation organizations plan to preserve the historic home and open it to visitors as a public preserve. Some plans include offering historical and cultural programs at the preserve, developing hiking trails, and creating pollinator habitats.
Carter said, “We envision this preserve as an active historic, cultural, and natural resource attraction, bringing visitors from all over to Chadds Ford to share in our region’s rich cultural heritage.”
Currently, NALT is working with various historic and conservation groups to raise funds to secure the Davis Tract. $3.6 million is needed.
“This initiative underscores the remarkable collaborations among passionate professionals committed to land conservation,” said Lacey Faber, Chadds Ford Township Manager.
NALT’s goal is to close on the property in the first quarter of 2025.
