Actor David Boreanaz from Villanova and Buffalo, raised by his Philly famous dad, got the acting bug after seeing Yul Brynner in King and I.

Actor David Boreanaz, son of veteran Action News weather forecaster Dave Roberts, has made his own mark in television and film, writes Victor Fiorillo for Philadelphia Magazine.

The Malvern Prep grad who grew up in Villanova and Buffalo, New York, is recognizable from his work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Bones, and Angel, and now he’s just finished up the final season of his military TV series, SEAL Team.

Boreanaz said growing up having a dad on television was “exhilarating but also humbling to watch him treat everybody the way they should be treated. He had no egotistical perspective. No ‘celebrity.’”

Boreanaz moved to L.A. in 1991, inspired to act in sixth grade after seeing Yul Brynner in “The King and I” in Philadelphia.

His first paid gig was In a JC Penney commercial with a pre-fame Bryan Cranston.

One of his first TV roles was playing Kelly Bundy’s biker boyfriend on “Married … With Children.”

Now you’ll find him on SEAL Team, playing the Bravo 1 special ops leader.

“As for my next project, I can’t talk about that yet,” he said.

To break into Hollywood he tells people to slow it down, be present and “embrace the fear.”
