Major Upgrades Announced for Trenton-Morrisville Toll Bridge: $5.98M Project Begins
The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission has awarded a $5.98 million contract to Road-Con, Inc. for construction work on the Trenton-Morrisville Toll Bridge and surrounding areas, writes Jeff Edelstein for The Trentonian.
The project includes milling and paving of Route 1 lanes and shoulders, along with 11 ramps, covering 1,800 feet in Pennsylvania and 2,600 feet in New Jersey.
Additional tasks involve sealing concrete bridge decks, repairing concrete damage, improving a ramp curve, restriping roads, and cleaning drainage pipes.
The Route 1 segments were last rehabilitated in 2014 and now show signs of deterioration. To minimize traffic disruptions, paving will occur during off-peak hours, and the Commission will issue travel alerts when significant work begins. The construction is set to start this month and finish by late October.
Built in 1952, the Trenton-Morrisville Toll Bridge spans 1,324 feet and is the Commission’s second oldest and second busiest toll crossing, with 53,300 vehicles per day in 2023.
This crucial maintenance project aims to enhance the safety and functionality of this vital transportation link.
