Burpee’s Fordhook Farm Opens to Public for Exclusive Garden Tours
Fordhook Farm, home to the renowned gardening company Burpee, will offer a rare opportunity for the public to explore its gardens and estate this weekend, writes Ed Doyle for Tapinto Doylestown.
Located across from Delaware Valley University, the farm will host the Burpee Open on July 27.
This free event, includes self-guided garden tours, expert gardening advice, lectures, kids’ activities, live music, food trucks, and a pop-up Burpee store.
It’s only the second time the event has been held since 2019, after cancellations due to the pandemic.
Burpee’s deep roots in Doylestown date back to the late 1800s when founder Atlee Burpee transitioned from poultry and livestock to seed production.
Fordhook Farm, vital to Burpee’s research and trials, still showcases its latest horticultural innovations.
Visitors can explore the perfectly tended gardens, historical buildings, and unique features like the “stumpery”—a modern garden with tree stumps and shade-loving plants.
