For many Philadelphia region residents, including Norristown comedian Chip Chantry, the sound of the 6ABC Action News theme is so iconic and omnipresent over the last 52 years that it evokes pride and unlocks memories, writes Earl Hopkins for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

“Move Closer to Your World” is regarded with the same patriotism many others feel when standing for the American flag.

“If you’re in my home, you better stand for the Action News theme song,” said Chantry in a clip during part of his Helium Comedy Club routine in April.

The clip was posted online on June 7 and has since gone viral with more than 500,000 views.

While he was growing up in Norristown, Chantry experienced the excitement of the city in his home thanks to the Action News theme.

Chantry has even named his upcoming special “Move Closer” in honor of the classic theme.

“It’s such an iconic theme, and it’s almost like a sports theme for people who don’t like sports,” he said. “This is like the Rocky theme in your house.”
