Cescaphe CEO Acquires Erwinna’s Sand Castle Winery for $2.35M
Sand Castle Winery is officially off the market, writes Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
Joe Volpe, co-founder and CEO of Philadelphia’s Cescaphe, has personally acquired the 50-year-old winery in Erwinna.
The purchase was made through 755 River Road LLC for $2.35 million in mid-May, according to Bucks County property records. Volpe is listed as the CEO of the purchasing entity, registered at Cescaphe’s primary address in Philadelphia.
A Cescaphe spokesperson clarified that the acquisition is a personal investment by Volpe and not connected to Cescaphe’s operations. Future plans for the winery remain undisclosed.
This purchase follows Volpe’s recent comments about exploring new venue opportunities outside Philadelphia, specifically in the Bucks County area due to its historic properties and proximity to New York.
Founded in 2003, Cescaphe manages eight wedding venues in Philadelphia, including its latest additions, The Switch House and The Grand Belle. Sand Castle Winery, established in 1974 by Joseph and Paul Maxian, produces various wines and functions as an event venue. The winery’s future under Volpe’s ownership is currently unknown.
This acquisition is part of a trend, with Chester County’s Longwood Gardens buying Galer Estate Vineyard last September for $1.6 million.
