Council Rock school board is set to approve full-day kindergarten this week, receiving strong support earlier this year.

Council Rock school board is set to approve full-day kindergarten this week, writes Katherine Cressman for the Bucks County Courier Times.

The district received strong support earlier this year for replacing the currently available half-day option with a longer program at all of its elementary schools.

If approved, the move to a kindergarten day that would last approximately 6.5 hours would start with the 2025-26 school year, as it would take around a year to finish all the necessary preparations.

The Council will vote on the proposal on Thursday.

The push for a longer program is unsurprising. School district officials recently wrapped up a community survey to determine if there was interest in a full-day kindergarten program at Council Rock. The survey provided members of the community a way to voice concerns, ask questions, and offer insight into the issue.

The survey proved there was overwhelming support for the proposal.

Among staff members, 75 percent “strongly support” the program, while 72 percent of Council Rock parents “strongly support” full-day kindergarten.

According to administrators, the estimated cost of hiring new staff would be around $2,611,208. This would be funded by a tax increase split over two years.
