The Bucks County Playhouse is set to dazzle audiences with the world premiere of the new musical “The Last of the Red Hot Mamas,” writes William Fithian for PHL 17.

 Featuring a cast of Broadway veterans, this production is a passion project from Susan and Lloyd Ecker. 

“The Last of the Red Hot Mamas” tells the inspiring story of Sophie Tucker, a performer known for her powerful voice and resilience despite facing discrimination due to her weight.

The Eckers hope the musical’s message will resonate with young women who have experienced similar struggles with body image. 

“We believe Sophie’s story will resonate with audiences, particularly young women who face similar challenges,” said Susan Ecker. “Sophie Tucker’s dynamism and spirit are truly inspirational.” 

The musical opens this Friday and runs through July 27 at the Bucks County Playhouse.
